Hey Men! What's on Your 'New Me' List This Year?

Happy New Year, to all the men out there!  I know we are all about to hop on the “New Me” ride and looking for a new hairstyle just may be on your list this first quarter.  So, what is hot and on trend for you?  Well, we took some time and sniffed around a bit for you.  This is what we found… be you. There is nothing sexier to your potential partner than men who are themselves!

The retro Pomp is holding strong as we move into the New Year. But, it is getting some new moves, the Pomp with tousled texture and length!  The Hard Part is moving away but you can still catch that movement and rock it for this first quarter. The fade is always part of the plan when keeping it “clean cut”.  One thing we noticed coming in is length, the sleek looks on top are now becoming longer, tousled and more natural versions. Now the “Mun” or “The Man Bun” is still staying in the game with a nicely groomed beard.

The beard…that is a whole topic in itself. As the we edge into Spring you will see everyone cleaning up and keeping it classy and groomed. But, until then you can see how long you can grow it, just remember to clean it up and comb it well. Try grabbing a beard brush and oil to help the health and beauty of that baby!

Happy New Year and remember, BE YOU!

How Traveling Professionals Can Still Have Fabulous Hair! by Uno Salon and Barber

As we start a New Year it’s refreshing to have new ideas to incorporate into our daily lives. For a lot of us that daily is on the road. As traveling professional women we are always looking for tips to take our beauty regimen abroad and to keep it simple. We took a moment to compile what we found helpful.

First, a roll-up beauty bag is always nice to have! We pack ours with our favorite travel-size beauty items, roll it up, and when we arrive at our destination…BAM…unroll and hang up!

Second, a make-up palette!  Carrying one multi-use item makes life and beauty on the go much easier! Simple make-up is the look for traveling professional women. Remember to always carry a bit of make-up for touchups.  We prefer asking our stylist for salon products in travel-size for convenience without the sacrifice. Speaking of stylist, hair is super important to your professional look and for those of us on the go we need professional and easy! Consider a bun and sleek pony for less tools to pack.

When it comes to clothing always have interchangeable pieces to maximize your travel closet. Layers are key here! Remember to never dress too flashy or bright, this distracts from presentations. Keeping accessories and jewelry simple and not too flashy is again key and lighter on the suitcase.

So, to sum it all up, keep it simple when traveling and being professional, most times less it ALWAYS more. Be smart with your choices when packing, just as you are with all of life. Good luck this year and stay empowered ladies!

Wedding Day Tips From a Family Owned Salon Specializing in Brides and Grooms

Uno Salon and Barber has been witnessing some awesome couples lately. This salon has been in the historic Flamingo hotel for the past 20 years. So maybe it’s too subtle to describe our couples as spontaneous, risk-takers when it comes to wedding planning. This is not to say that we exclusively cater to the unconventional, non-traditional couples; we find every story exciting. From the deep-rooted, heartfelt unions to the spontaneous romantic getaway that naturally rolled into a jam session down the aisle with Elvis! That's why we decided to become experts in this area.

Inspired by some of our favorite patrons, we decided to compile a few tips for both brides and grooms to prepare for your big day:

Drink lots of water

Ladies, we will make sure to make your makeup look radiant for your big day. However, please remember to drink plenty of water. It will make your skin look replenished and give it a natural glow.  Gentleman, in addition to drinking plenty of water, exfoliate. Women tend to have a better handle on this (not always). When we send you back to our barbershop for that nice shave, your skin will have a much nicer glow to it when it’s well nourished and hydrated.

Nails deserve love

Whether or not you think people notice--they do! Try something new with our Shellac Certified Nail artists. She can jazz up the traditional french manicure or embellish a pretty pastel with some polka dots. Guys, Get your nails buffed and trimmed.

Hair

This is very important and usually deserves the most amount of attention so here are five tips we suggest you consider for your bridal hair checklist:

  1. Bring photos of your wedding dress fitting
  2. Bring a photo of how you would like your hair to look.
  3. Be open. Leave room for an outcome that may be slightly different from what you envision in your mind. Texture and length may impact our ability to replicate the exact style.
  4. Time. If possible, come in a day or two the big day for a practice session. This will lift a lot of the last minute stress off of you and your stylist.
  5. Accessorize. This can really dress up a simple style and bring it to the next level!

For our gentlemen, we have noticed that over the years you have taken more creative license when it comes to cut and color. No need to worry. We have your specialist as well, yet same rules apply. If you have a style in mind be sure to bring in some examples.

There you have it. Whether you are among the free thinkers or you lean more on the traditional side, come experience the warmth of our Uno Salon and Barber Family, and allow us to help manifest your vision for the big wedding day. Thank you in advance for sharing your wedding day with us!
